Panthers Sign Scott To Active Roster; Release Godfrey

The Carolina Panthers have signed guard Chris Scott to the active roster from the practice squad and released cornerback Charles Godfrey, the team announced Tuesday.

Scott, who started eight games for the Panthers in 2013 before being released by the team in this year’s final roster cutdown, had been signed to the practice squad on Oct. 14.

Godfrey played in 82 games with 75 starts for the Panthers since being drafted by the team in third round of the 2008 NFL Draft. He had played in seven games with one start for the Panthers in 2014, working as a cornerback after returning from an Achilles injury suffered last season.

“Making this move was difficult because Charles has been a large part of what we have done since I came to Carolina four years ago,” says head coach Ron Rivera. “He has always tried to do everything we have asked of him and worked extremely hard. He is an outstanding young man and we wish him the very best.”
