The Gentlemen’s League Partners with Headlines Barbershop to Honor Scholars

Headlines Barbershop participated in an event to celebrate 2 young men who made the honor roll.  The Gentlemen’s League organized the event.  The Gentlemen’s League is an organization devoted to encouraging “at – risk” minority boys to excel in school.  The event was held at Whitewater Middle School on March 17th.  Headlines Barbershop provided free haircuts to the honorees.  For more information about the Gentlemen’s League, visit http://thegentlemensleague.cmswiki.wikispaces.net/

There were two boys who received haircuts as part of the event: Jamirious Mooney an 8th grader, and Marquavious Townsend, a 7th grader.  The gentlemen’s league encompasses 55 adolescent males. Its purpose is to educate, empower, and enrich black males. Founder, Archie Moss Jr says “I started the gentlemen’s league because I see myself in these boys every single day.  When I walk through the halls I see myself; the misguided, misinformed, black male. My purpose is to serve as a positive, black male role model, and to let the boys know they can and will be successful.”

Headlines Barbershop’s participation in this “give back” event is just one in a series of events in an initiative that the barbershop started last year.  The purpose of the initiative is to give back to the Charlotte community.
