Panthers Sign Trai Turner To 4-Year Contract Extension

The Carolina Panthers have signed guard Trai Turner to a four-year contract extension, the team announced Friday. Turner is now under contract with Carolina through the 2021 season.

“Any time you’re able to secure someone like Trai, a two-time Pro Bowler and a staple of our offensive line, you’re very fortunate,” interim general manager Marty Hurney said. “The offensive line is a key to the team’s success and Trai is a very integral part of that. We’re extremely excited to have Trai under contract for the next five seasons.”

A third-round draft choice by the Panthers in 2014 out of LSU, Turner has been named to the Pro Bowl in each of the past two seasons. Dating to his rookie season, he has started 38 consecutive games along the line for Carolina, including three games at right tackle in 2016 due to injuries.

Turner’s blocking efforts have helped the Panthers rank in the top-10 in rushing yards per game in each of his three seasons, including a No. 2-ranking in 2015. In 2015, Turner provided protection for quarterback Cam Newton to earn the NFL’s MVP award and was part of an offensive unit that set team records with an NFL-leading 500 points and 59 touchdowns and gain a team-record 357 first downs en route to an appearance in Super Bowl 50.
