Panthers Sign CB Robert McClain

The Carolina Panthers have signed cornerback Robert McClain and placed cornerback Bene Benwikeré on injured reserve, the team announced Tuesday.

McClain, 5-9 and 195 pounds, originally entered the NFL with Carolina in 2010 as a seventh-round (249th overall) out of Connecticut, playing in 16 games with two starts. He spent three seasons (2012-14) with Atlanta before signing as a free agent with New England this offseason. He was released by New England in the final roster cutdown.

For his career, McClain has played in 63 regular season games with 17 starts, totaling 202 tackles, three interceptions and 21 passes defensed.
