Panthers Claim OT Theus; Place CB Luke on IR

The Carolina Panthers have claimed offensive tackle John Theus off of waivers from the San Francisco 49ers and placed cornerback Cole Luke on injured reserve, the team announced Thursday. The team also signed kicker Harrison Butker to the practice squad.

Theus, 6-6 and 305 pounds, started 48 games at the University of Georgia and was on the All-SEC first team as a senior. He was selected by San Francisco in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft and played in the final four games of his rookie season, including a start at right tackle.

Defensive tackle Eric Crume was terminated from the practice squad to make room for Butker.
