Delta 22 City Centennial Torch Tour to Stop in Charlotte!

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., celebrates 100 years! To honor this milestone, the organization launched an international 22- city centennial torch tour January 1, 2013. The tour, starting in Los Angeles and ending in Washington, D.C., kicked off  the organization’s yearlong celebration of the centennial anniversary of the Sorority’s founding by 22 African American women 100 years ago on the campus of Washington, D.C.’s Howard University.

The Torch makes a stop in Charlotte, June 21-22, 2013; whereby, the Charlotte Alumnae Chapter will conduct celebratory programs that will include a parade, Gala, honoree breakfast and acknowledgements from elected officials and other invited guests.

Stops on the Torch Tour will visit the hometowns of the Sorority’s living Past National Presidents, current Executive Committee members, and two of the organization’s international chapters – Tokyo, Japan and Bermuda. In Charlotte, the organization’s current National Treasurer, Terri Rivalte Prunty, CPA, and the 20th National President, Dr. Bertha Maxwell Roddey are both members of the Charlotte chapter, and will be honored as part of the local Centennial celebration festivities.

“This is an exciting time to be a Delta.  I am thrilled about our chapter celebrating our birthday,” says Desiree Rew, President, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Charlotte Alumnae Chapter. “The chapters 100th birthday is important because it’s a reminder of the great public service Deltas do in the community and worldwide.”
