Nominations are being sought for the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. “Medallion” Award by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Community Relations. It is the highest award given by the City of Charlotte to honor the MLK holiday and is presented annually to individuals in the community.
Nominees must be residents of Charlotte-Mecklenburg and will be judged on their involvement in promoting the ideals of racial equality and social justice as espoused by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Such examples include: celebrating the worth of all human beings, pursuing equal rights by non-violent means, active involvement in community service, and/or encouraging people of diverse cultures to live together in a spirit of love and acceptance.
The deadline for submitting nominations is Friday, October 25. Nominations can be made by completing the attached form, submitting the online form at crc.charmeck.org, or by calling Terry Bradley at 704-336-5271 for more options.
Nominations will be reviewed by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Community Relations Committee. The 2013 award was given to Mr. Steve Crump. The winner of this year’s award will be honored at the 21st Annual MLK Prayer Breakfast on Monday, January 20.
