Carolina Panthers and Lowe’s partner for new
Play 60 Challenge Course playground at Reedy Creek Park
Ribbon cutting ceremony scheduled September 18 for $275,000 project which celebrates 10th anniversary of NFL’s Play 60 initiative
Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation also a partner in unique play space
Charlotte – The Carolina Panthers and Lowe’s, in partnership with Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation, will unveil the new Carolina Panthers Play 60 Challenge Course at Reedy Creek Park Monday September 18, 2017. The play space is designed for all ages, but with special emphasis given to providing older children who may have outgrown traditional “tot” playgrounds with a more challenging play scape. The course includes a wide variety of fun and challenging obstacles designed to develop agility, balance and coordination for both children and adults. An automated timing device allows kids and parents to time themselves through the course. In addition, a 40 yard dash with automated timing device adjoins the Challenge Course.
“The Carolina Panthers Play 60 Challenge Course will engage kids in creative and active ways while promoting the NFL’s Play 60 initiative, which encourages kids to get 60 minutes of daily physical activity,” said Panthers Director of Community Relations Riley Fields. “The best description we’ve come up with when conveying the concept of this dynamic play space is “NFL Combine meets Ninja Warrior”.
More than forty Lowe’s Heroes volunteers from Charlotte area stores helped build the Play 60 Challenge Course in a day of service on August 17. Work included assembling and installing equipment, pouring concrete and landscaping.
Reedy Creek Park was selected as the Play 60 Challenge Course site in an effort to serve the county’s northwest community, as well as enhance the park’s active recreation amenities including walking trails, disc golf and iconic play meadow. The new Play 60 Challenge Course joins two other popular Play 60 Challenge Course play spaces located at Mecklenburg County’s Freedom Park and Hornets Nest Park.
