Panthers Sign Kurt Coleman to Three-Year Extension

The Carolina Panthers have signed safety Kurt Coleman to a three-year contract extension, the team announced Wednesday. Coleman is now under contract with Carolina through the 2019 season.

“It’s a blessing,” Coleman said. “When you go through situations you want what’s best for your family and what’s best for the team, and I’m really excited. I’m fortunate to be a part of this team for three more years. Training camp is the beginning of a new season, and for me, now that this is out of the way I am completely focused.”

In 2015, Coleman’s first season with Carolina, he led the Panthers and tied for third in the NFL with career-high seven interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown. The seven interceptions tied for second-most interceptions in a single season in Panthers history and contributed to a team that ranked sixth in the NFL in total defense and led the NFL in interceptions (24), takeaways (39), points off turnovers (148) and turnover differential (+20). Coleman finished third on the team with 103 tackles.

A seventh-round draft choice of Philadelphia in 2010, Coleman joined the Panthers after playing four seasons with Philadelphia (2010-13) and one season with Kansas City (2014).
