Whole Foods CO-CEO Coming To Charlotte

How can food change the healthcare system, sustain the Earth and create equity among different income levels? Find out at “Food for Change” hosted by internationally known and local nonprofit, Sow Much Good, a community discussion on how to use food  as an agent for social justice. Walter Robb, Whole Foods Market’s co-CEO will give the keynote speech on Sept. 17 at the Charlotte Convention Center.

CNN Hero Robin Emmons founded Sow Much Good (SMG) to help over 73,000 people in 60 food insecure Charlotte neighborhoods. SMG provides access, education and advocacy to nutritionally starved communities and to date has helped more than 7,000 people.

“Food For Change will inform, engage and educate the community on the issue of food insecurity and explore how we as residents can ensure the ability for all people to improve their individual health and the health of our community as a whole by building an equitable local food economy,” said Emmons.

Clark Barlowe of Charlotte’s farm to fork restaurant, Heirloom, will join Robb and Emmons to speak on the importance of local foods. Majora Carter, best known for her TED Talk on “Greening the Ghetto,” will be on hand as well to discuss urban revitalization. And filmmaker, Byron Hunt, will talk about his journey with his father to change his soul food eating habits in the midst of a health crisis when he shot the documentary, “Soul Food Junkies.”
