31st ANNUAL ACHIEVEMENTS UNLIMITED BASKETBALL SCHOOL

TO NEW HOME

(July 21, 2015, Charlotte, NC)  Achievements Unlimited (AU) Basketball School is excited to partner with Carolina Courts Indian Trail as the designated camp location for the first time in AU’s impressive 31 year history.  Carolina Courts provides an outstanding facility for all campers, boys and girls ages 8 to 17, to enjoy AU under one roof.  Carolina Courts Indian Trail is located at 240 Chestnut Parkway, Indian Trail, NC  28079.   AUwill be held Tuesday, July 21 through Friday, July 24 from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm

AU was founded in 1984 by visionary and Greensboro, North Carolina native and Charlotte Hornets President & COO, Fred Whitfield, with the help of close friends Johnny Dawkins, David Henderson, Michael Jordan and Ralph Sampson.  The first camp was held the following summer of 1985.  Whitfield’s vision for AU was unique.  His goal was to teach fundamental basketball skills while leveraging that platform to place an even stronger message around the value of academics and extreme importance of taking a stance against drugs. Whitfield’s vision has successfully reached over 10,000 kids for over 30 years.

On the first day of AU, campers receive a set of vocabulary words specific to their age group.  Campers are required to define and study those words over the next four days.  Daily AU activities include basketball drills, vocabulary word review and educational sessions on drug awareness.  At the end of the week, all campers are tested on their vocabulary words.  Campers who score 100% on their vocabulary test and earn all-star ratings on basketball drills receive a variety of awards and recognitions including a spot on a playoff team.  League Playoff Games and League Championship Games will be held at Carolina Courts Indian Trail on Friday, July 24.  Closing Ceremony will be held at 2:00 pm at Carolina Courts Indian Trail on Friday, July 24.

Whitfield receives an outpouring of support from NBA and NFL celebrity guests and community leaders who share in his vision to impart positive lessons on today’s younger generation.  Celebrity guests rotate through camp each day to spend time with campers as guest speakers.  For more information on this year’s AU celebrity guest schedule please see details below.  Special Note:  Schedule & speakers subject to change.  Please contact Kristen Peifer in advance at 703.626.0032 to arrange for on-site event coordination of interviews and B-roll.
