No school for CMS students or school-based staff Monday, Jan. 9

Due to the severe weather, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools will be closed for students on Monday, Jan. 9. Students and staff will not report to school. School-based certified staff may choose to work from home or follow the make-up leave options outlined in the severe weather memo for staff.

For schools on the traditional calendar, the make-up day for students will be Friday, Feb. 17. The student make-up day for Project L.I.F.T. Continuous Learning Schools Walter G. Byers and Bruns Academy will be Friday, March 17. Druid Hills and Thomasboro academies will not make up the student day because they already have 19 additional days built into their calendar.

While many roadways and CMS campuses are clear, weather reports indicate there may be black ice and refreezing, which could cause roads to be unsafe during the early morning. The severe weather and road conditions also make it very challenging for school staff who live in northern Mecklenburg and surrounding counties to get to work and ensure our schools are fully operational and ready to safely receive students for learning.

NOTE: The CMS lottery/options media briefing scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at Coulwood STEM Academy has been rescheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, at the school.
